That New Pornos album is great. I heard one of their songs on this internet radio station I sometimes listen to, so I downloaded that album and have been listening to it quite a bit lately. That and imogen hep (sp?); is that the same girl singing from Frou Frou?

Not so sure about Imogen. Haven't listened to any Frou Frou, although I have a friend who likes them.
I'm a big fan of the New Pornos, but I like Neko Case's solo stuff even more. Very different, but she's a wonderful songwriter.

I'm digging the new pornos album, but am unfamiliar with Neko Case's solo stuff. Should I hunt it down?

It's sort of alt-country, the earlier stuff being considerably twangier.
If that doesn't turn you off, check it out. It takes a while to grow on you, but her album Blacklisted is one of my favorites, period. Her new one is also fantastic. She's sort of dark bitter chocolate where most other female artists are Dove lite.
She's a powerful lyricist, as well.
"florescent lights engage blackbirds frying on a wire same birds that followed me to school when I was young were they trying to tell me something? were they telling me to run?"

My first post in this incarnation of a Stavesacre Messageboard. (to those who remember the uber-old board before that got dismantled, I was </sarcasm> on there)... I figured this sort of thread was the best place to introduce myself.
Actually, I've been quite excited reading this thread, seeing how many Neko Case and New Pornograhpers fans there are here. I am a biiiig fan of both. "Fox Confessor" is a super super awesome album. "Star Witness" gives me shivers.
I've been on a 16 Horsepower kick lately considering I just got their new live DVD. Man, I saw them live several years ago and that may just be the best night of my life. Not a specific album, per se, (as will be the case with most of these, since my music is on an iPod and so I don't just stick with several cds)... but particularly their older material.
I'm also really into Sonic Youth, so I've been salivating over the recent re-releases of their Self Titled album, the Thurston Moore solo album, and the Ciccone Youth album. Each are quality.
If I had to say I obsess over just one band, that band would be The Residents. So their material is always in constant rotation. Particularly their early stuff.
I often pull out Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, and Captain Beefheart.
And speaking of which, the best live show I've seen recently belonged to Man Man, who just utterly destroyed my perception of what a live show could be. Insane show. Very Waits influenced band, but with their own touches.
and Pattern Is Movement is going to round out my little blurb here. "Stowaway" has been listened to a lot, and it's what would have happened if I had made the music in my head... but they beat me to it.
Sorry that's kind of long. Hope it didn't offend any of you.

Right now Blessed Black Wings - High on Fire
I don't own the album, so I'm literally just listening to the title track.
Also been listening to The Romance of the Southern Spirit track by ZAO since the lyrics were just released for it. Otherwise I took the copies I have of Five Iron Frenzy's albums on my iPod (the albums are owned by other members of my family so I kept them off my computer for a long time) and placed them on my computer and have been listening to the first two of their albums for a couple days now.

I like that Sufjan album. A bit tacky at points, but hey, he didn't record it for me.
Also listening to Islands' 'Return to the Sea', The Hold Steady's 'Boys and Girls in America', and TV on the Radio's 'Return to Cookie Mountain'.

Stadium Arcadium, RHCP. Chili Peppers' whole albums are so much more interesting to listen to straight through rather than the singles you hear on the radio. I guess that's likely the point.
But anyway.
(Oh also... I've listened to 10,000 Days by tool many times in the past few weeks. Not that it's a really recent release.)

Speaking of nonrecent releases, I've been listening to Fair Warning from VH. I just love that riff that Mean Street open the album with and Unchained is a true classic.
