Sure, if you love the yellow and black attack spandex.
And we all know how great yellow and black spandex is. Right? Yeah.
Now that I think about it, my first concert may not have been Carmen. Thank goodness. (I still had the luck, good or bad, to see him.) My first may indeed have been Barry Manilow. Hmm... Carmen, or Barry Manilow? Bush or Kerry? What?

Which is only excusable if you are a professional cyclist.
And even then, not so much.

Come on now. Of course Uma can get away with it. But when you're at that stage, who's asking anyway?

Hey, I never said I liked the spandex. You can't judge a book by it's cover, right? The makeup was bad too. Oh well I liked the music. What can I say...We didn't have great bands like Stavesacre back then (or anything even close for that matter).

Howdy all. my first concert EVER? those go back too far, but let's say that the first concert that ever knocked my socks off was Helmet at a little dive bar in the Iowa side of the quad cities.
My first concert that has relevance to this board would be the Crucified at cornerstone in '90.
My first Stavesacre concert was at Cornerstone when mark was handing out the 3 song demo.

Wow, my first show ever..let's see if I can recall it..
Christian-wise---it had to be Carman in like Feb 92 and Petra like a month later. I was 13, in youth group, being guarded by mom from the evils of rock and roll..lol
I was still unaware of the good music that was so underground, it was like 2 years later when I heard of bands like the Seventy Sevens, Scaterd Few, The Crucified and Mortal. My first "alternative" show was Dakota Motor Co and Hoi Polloi in like late 1995. From then it was every Tooth and Nail show that came thru town which included the first time I saw Plankeye, MxPx, Blenderhead & Focused.
My first secular show was a doozy,...Rage Against the Machine. Fall 96 w/Stanford Prison Experiment and Girls Vs. Boys..by far one of the best shows I have ever been to..since then, I pretty much have to see every band I love or have been influenced by, with the exception of Tool. They are at the top of my list when they come back to Dallas.
and there you go..

Okay kids, gather round and let grandpa tell you a tale. First concert was The Cars with The Motels opening. Then saw Zebra open for Loverboy that summer. Huge AC/DC fan, saw Back in Black, For Those About To Rock, and Flick Of The Switch. Probably the best secular show I ever saw was Queen, with Billy Squier opening. Queen was absolutely amazing. The best Christian show I have seen lately was Chevelle with Switchfoot opening. Every time I see Chevelle they get better. My only concern is how it feels like they are more secular now. I know that is between them and God, and not for me to judge, but part of the buzz I got from them was how much faith they seemed to show. Is it me reading too much into things? Maybe. It didn't seem to matter in the past, but now it does. Once upon a time, in the distant past, I saw Loudness (Greeeeaaattt guitarist, but what is he singing about?) open for Motley Crue( what was that line, oh yeah, they sucked Ass!). I was supposed to go see them at Conseco, and told my buddies I wasn't interested. That part of my life is past. Give me that ol' timey religion anyday. I will put Stavesacre,Living Sacrifice, East-West and the like up against today's crop of here-today,gone-tomorrow flashes anytime. Wow, did that go all over the place, or what? Sorry for the spasms. In the immortal words of Johnny Cash," I've been everywhere, man". I did enjoy my past, but I know better now. I might even enjoy the Carman reunion tour(okay, maybe not. But he could really dance in the bowels of a factory, couldn't he?) And one last confession, Petra rocked at Pulsefest 2 summer's ago.

so i just read this whole thread for the first time now and it made me think of some things:
1. my first show was seeing mxpx and squad five o. i remember being so afraid of what seemed like a whole "punk/alternative/rock" atmosphere and i just didn't know what to expect. but it turned out to be absolutely amazing nonetheless and i haven't been able to stop going to shows since. ***i've never been the same since that first show/i close my eyes and let myself go/to a place where i'm never alone or scared/somehow i had a reason to care*** (bouncing souls)
2. i noticed some talk about stryper, and it made me think about how they just did a reunion show at a club not too far from me and there was a big write up in the paper about it. i had heard of them in the past but didn't realize the signifigance they seem to hold that the article stated. i kinda wish i would have went now to the show just to see what it was like.
3. what ever happened to toby deemer? i saw a couple posts in this thread by him and he seemed to post often but then there's nothing. unless he just got a new name. or maybe it's weird my asking. i don't know.
***and that was simply my two cents/you can take it or leave it*** (that is from a john reuben song which the lead singer of relient k sings on and i'm never ever going to speak of such a thing again)

My daughter loves Reliant K, great videos. And John Reuben is funny. And I like to read Louis L'Amour books. And my wife does know what a nerd-boy I am. And I think " My Name is Earl" is hilarious. "Sorry, I'm busy stomping the Devil out of my heart. But thanks for thinking of me." Religion on NBC, whoda thunk it.

Petra ~ 1989 at the Mammoth Events Center in Denver. I was 15. My dad took me, even though he hated rock music. I was blown away, mainly because I had never been to something like that. Became a Petra junkie for many years after. Finally quit that addiction in the early 90s.
Anyways, first real concert? Starflyer 59 and The Prayer Chain in 1995 at the Aztlan Events Center in Denver. That show is in my top 5 of all time. Hearing The Prayer Chain play the 10 minute plus 'Sun Stoned' live was an experience too beautiful to describe.
Seen Stavesacre 3 times.

i can't help but like relient k and john reuben. there's just something about them. and now all of a sudden i hear relient k are on mtv. i'm glad in some ways because i'd rather have a band like them on mtv than the trash that always seems to be played on there.
but yeah we're not talking bout my love for them anymore.

My first REAL concert was Stavesacre and POD headlining Vision Fest '99, which also happened to be the Smiley Kids' last official show.
Also where I first met Anson aka anathema. Good times.

Mine was Squad 5-0 at the BCM (baptist collegiate ministry) on LSU campus, Baton Rouge, LA in 1997. must have been one of their first tours. that was my first real show anyway....
ok, now for real: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the CajunDome on the Coming Out of Our Shells tour in Lafayette, LA 1980something. awesome!
