Stavesacre - I loved their music the first time I heard it, and still do but the connection to this music has become more personal over time. I indentify very personally to a lot of what is being said in the music so it goes much deeper than the sound.
Tantrum of the Muse - I love the guitar sounds both clean and distorted, I like Steven Sarro's voice both singing and screaming, I love just the general off the wall-ness of it and the things they have to say.
Fugazi - I find myself listening to something of theirs more than almost anything else these days. Old to new.
Elliott - These guys played a local club a long time ago and I checked them out on the internet. I wasn't able to go to the show but they became one of my favorite bands. Their album False Cathedrals is beauty defined. And they can rock too!
Old Metallica - I grew up on this stuff and they were my favorite band as a kid. It's more of a historical reference probably. I actually like Slayer and Black Sabbath better now but for many years Kill 'em All to Justice was about all I listened to.
other stuff: Dillinger Escape Plan, The Cootees (haha), Roadside Monument!, Living Sacrifice (of course), and...I dunno.

To RogueLeader-
Hey brother, I am the one who mentioned the new Lamb Of God CD.
I appreciate and respect your right to opine on my statement about Lamb of God and their anti-war position. I happen to like artists that have something to say; intelligence is a key element to the music I listen to. That doesn't mean everything I like is political, or that I agree with everything an artist says. I am just drawn to bands that take the time to think through their messages.
This, of course, leads me to many artists whose political leanings are similar to mine. I suspect most of us are drawn to art (or people or religion, for that matter), that helps us make sense of this complicated world. Music is a key part of that process for me. And so: I love bands that are political, bands that challenge me to think and search about politics and how it intertwines with religion and my general desire just to be a better person.
So, as I said, I give you credit for taking the time to share your thoughts. Good music and open forums such as this allow us to do that. However, you insult me by suggesting that I am somehow un-American ("...go back to France"); this takes it a step too far. You have crossed over from a point of important dialogue (the right of each of us to express our opinions and hopefully get to a place together that we could not have on our own) into a monologue that seeks to dismiss my point of view. Name-calling and labeling is unhelpful. It limits our opportunity to speak together and grow together.
Is it the goal of Lamb Of God to push "hatred and narrow-minded views on people," as you say? That is your interpretation. However, have you heard the album? And, do they not have a right to share their thoughts and observations about the world? To suppress them would be unhuman, a betrayal of who they are as human beings and as a band.
Second, why is it that questioning the ongoing war in Iraq is equated with narrow-mindedness? I argue the opposite: we have a duty as human beings to critically evaluate the world around us. That gives us permission to struggle with difficult political and moral questions. It gives Lamb Of God the right to say whatever the hell they want to say. It gives me and them and anyone else the right to wonder publicly whether our current policies are just, fair, proper, appropriate, and best for this country and for our little world in both the short- and long- term.
And here's the beauty of it: once people have expressed their opinions, as you said yourself, they have the "freedom to absorb." So, please, give me the freedom to absorb - and to question, struggle, challenge, and think - without calling me names or dismissing me so easily. I encourage everyone else to do so as well. My pledge is to do the same. #nosmileys#nosmileys

the cds I've been spinn'n like a villi'n (joke) are; Living Sacrifice-Concieved in Fire (sweet metal, my fav. living sac album, next to Reborn), Nodes of Ranvier, He Is Legend (sweet band, with great music, can't wait to see them live), and Stryper, that's right I said it, STRYPER! TOOOOOOOOO HELLLLLLLLL WIIITTTTTTTHHHHHHH THE DEEEEEEVVVVVVIIIIIIILLLLLLLL. One of the best metal bands come out of the 80's. Micheal Sweet has one of the best male vocal voices next to Mark Saloman's. Live Long and Prosper Stryper!

Response to A Heuer:
I think I have a better angle for forming opinions than most Americans do. I lived in a "3rd world" muslim country for about a year. I have seen and heard things, experienced things that most people never will. The news and Michael Moore give completely different aspects of what is real.
I conceede any points I have to "knowing persons" that share similar experiences. One thing that I hate is for people to rant and rave about things they "believe" though they have never experienced them. I am not trying to call anyones experience into question...but...
How real is it when a person writes a song about death when they have never known anyone around them to die--they just see it in a movie? How right is it for someone to say that people's rights are being taken away in other countries when they have never been there to see what these people have or what they have been through. I call this being false.
So much of what people think and say anymore seems to be based on false premises....like they have the right to say what they think just because they think it, not because they have any outside knowledge of the subject.
For example, I stand very conservative on the stance that marijuana should be outlawed. Part of my reasoning for this is that I am a police officer and I know what damage it does. The same with alcohol, under-age users and driving. Ask me about something like saving the dolphins, and whatever I think...I have no real knowledge of the issue, nor does it affect me.
I hate it when people go all Ape because something that someone else believes gets pushed to the front of the table and then everyone jumps on with an opinion.
What's wrong with Nebraska football this year? I have an opinion, and I live in Nebraska, but my opinion isn't even valid. I don't play football and I have nothing riding on it.
Does that make any sense?

Hey Rogue leader, I would have to agree with what you just sad. If you read my thread "mind your business," it's the same thought I was trying to get across. And just to let you know, I was there in that "third world," muslim country myself. So I know what your talking about and happily agree with you.

1) Stavesacre (of course) 2) Old Crow Medicine Show (think rockin' fast bluegrass performed by guys with punk and "grunge" influences thrown in). 3) U2 4) Project 86 (Schwab=genius poet) 5) POD
And I have to add that the "Hymns: Ancient and Modern" CD is one of the best CDs I've EVER heard.
