I'm not trying to stir up any arguments, but I'm sick of bands, actor's, and mostly people in the "Entertainment" business giving their political veiws to stir controversy. I myself am not of a big fan of this. I understand the right of Freedom of speech, but I don't think because your on tv or have a mic in your hand makes you a expert in politics. One of my favorit bands are taking this route and it's not the same band I remember from before. If your an artist and going to say something wrong about America, you better have some facts to support and not your own personal emotions and ideas, because your far from the truth. If you see America as such a huge problem, then go to Africa, or go live in the middle east, you might find that America isn't as bad as your making it sound.
Had to get that off my chest

I found that myself when I picked up the latest Beastie Boys album. The political rhetoric just got boring. Not taking a stance either way on the politics...it just wasn't as fun as they used to be. *sigh*

I liked Brad Pitt more when i heard he said something like, "I'm just an actor, why are you asking me?" in answer to some political question. Your avatar reminded me of that. I liked Brad Pitt before mind you, but I gained some respect for his person (rather than acting) when I heard that.

i'm going to go a different route and say that i greatly respect the actors/musicians who are saying: "educate yourselves and vote for the love of cake" because this is going to be a hot and close race, and we're a politically apathetic generation.
these people know the power and influence they have over a lot of people and that some consider them super-human, or ultra-wise [for whatever reason]. so i'm all for using that influence to encourage people to vote.
however, i think it's ridiculous for an actor to say, "i know all about the suffering in iraq though i'll never have to do a day of hard labour as long as i live" and telling us whom we should vote for. uneducated people will follow every word their favourite actors/musicians say and will believe these entertainers are privvy to something they are not.
it's a double edged sword in the entertainment business, but i think that if you're in a position of influence and you choose to use it, i'm in favour. just, use it intelligently.

I would have to agree with you Lucky. I don't mind the artist to encourage someone to educate themselves, but I just feel personal opinion needs to be left out. Expecially when it's used to sell a cd.

I was just at a Cake concert, and in the middle of the show they stopped and started talking about drinking water and how we in the United States are uber privileged. Then they went and did a song with the line "How do you support your rock 'n' roll lifestyle," about how it was bad to live extravagantly when there are people who don't have anything.
Now, while this is important, they need to seriously consider their audience. They just made a ton of money off of people that live in the LA area and paid like $40 a piece to go to their concert. Are these people really worried about these things? How much of Cake's tour money do they give to charities or what not? Anyway, I hate it when bands interrupt a show to make some sort of political statement. I didn't buy a ticket to go hear you whine and complain about the current state of our country. I came to hear music. So play some.
