So like I know what spam is. (Junk mail) However, I'm uncertain as to whether I have been a spammer around here. My friend Erica explained to me what spam bots are and obviously I'm not that otherwise I wouldn't be typing. On the same hand, I can see where I have tripped and fallen around this board and so I'm hopping I haven't stepped out of line too much. I know Carnage made a Joke to me about spamming a little while back. I'm sure that's not the only mistake I've made.
I know that when I signed on this place it gave a list of rules to follow. (not that of done a great job of following those either, I'm working on it though.) Along those lines though, I was wondering about the unwritten rules, cause it seems like there's plenty of those too. I know being new or ignorant about this stuff is no excuse and I know people don't like to fill people in on this type of stuff, but you know. What you tell me, others will read also. Maybe it will be more helpful then you might think.

You are a horrible dirty spammer. Repent and be baptized. Preferably with detergent in the water.

Examples of messageboard spamming:
-posting the exact same message in multiple threads, or making the same threads in multiple forums (i.e., unnecessary copies of stuff)
-posting a link to a website just to get hits to that site, or just to make money. This is similar to junk email, only in messageboard form
-posting a reply that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread topic. This is NOT the random post that shows up in threads; this is usually related to either of the previous two points.
-posting "internet fads" (such as the ORLY owl or AYB) for the sheer purpose of thread derailment or irritation of the other participants in the thread
Sometimes posting one word replies (like "yes" or "cool") to a thread can be considered spamming, b/c you're not really contributing anything to the thread. If, however, the thread is more like a poll, then one word replies can be alright.
Sometimes also simply replying to a message in order to boost your post count can also be considered spamming. This practice is also called "post-whoring", and commonly consists of one-word replies or "I agree with (insert username here)".
In general, if you're considering making a post that will contribute little to nothing to either the thread or the messageboard as a whole, you might want to reconsider.
And yes, that was a joke I made to you a while back.
