"Allow me to help:
Writing usually starts with someone's riff or two, then becomes a collaboration as we all weigh in. With Speakeasy, the riffs were born thusly:
Minuteman-Ryan
Sundown Motel-Jeff
Keep Waiting-Jeff with Ryan in Atlanta
You Know How It Is-Dirk
Rivers Underneath-Jeff
Gold & Silver-Ryan
Freefall-Jeff
St. Eriksplan-The Country Of Sweden
Disquiet-Jeff
Fascination Street-Robert Smith
This Love-Jeff
That is where they were born. Then the rest of us came after them with guns and knives..."

"Speakeasy truly was a collaberative effort. Jeff and I were like twins communicating with some kind of telepathy in the writing of that album, finishing eachother's perverbial musical sentences. Disquiet and Freefal were done way before I joined the band. I was actually their booking agent when they first started playing those songs. Keep Waiting was the first song I wrote with the band. Jeff and I wrote it at Dirk's parents house in Atlanta one day while the rest of the band was at the movies. We were so excited about it that we immediately drove over to Dirk's dad's church to put it together with the band. The melody and the lyrics happened pretty much immediately. Jakerad is right, what ended up being the chorus was originally the bridge, and there was a totally different chorus that got cut once we realized that we kept walking away from rehearsal singing the "Keep Waiting" line over and over. The songs Minuteman, and St. Eriksplan were written, at least musically, for the band I was in before I joined Stavesacre. Gold and Silver also was written for that band, but as an up-tempo rock song. When I was showing Jeff the riff at rehearsal, we were playing it slow and quiet to get the timing of the the chord progression and the harmonic part right, and we noticed that it sounded really cool that way. I've often suggested us doing the rock version as a Gold And Silver pt.II, but I haven't gotten any takers. Rivers Underneath was written by Jeff in the studio, pretty much. You Know How It Is, St. Eriksplan, and Sundown Motel were actually all written in one day in a basement in Sweden. (Fondly refered to as "The Day" by all involved.)"
