I haven't been at this board in awhile. Got the FAIR album, AMAZING. It will easily be my best album of 2006. I have listened to it non-stop for the last two weeks!

I liked it right away, and it's still growing on me. A great collection of songwriting. I think this will end up being one of my all time favorites and that's no joke. I loved Aaron Sprinkle's solo stuff even more than I liked Poor Old Lu, but this is better. There's something about having a real band. Any favorite songs? "Grab Your Coat" really stood out to me, I just wish it was longer. The only thing that could've made this album better would be if Jeremy Enigk had sang on it .

My favorite song is by far "Unglued." As far as Jeremy Enigk goes, that would be cool. I love the guest vocals from Sherri and Stacy of Eisley, but I wish you could actually hear the John Davis and Jesse Sprinkle guest vocals.
I completely agree about this being better than Aaron's solo stuff (which I love), but I think Poor Old Lu is much more original. Poor Old Lu is my favorite band of all time however.

Is Poor Old Lu broken up for real now?
Also, I just read the Chronicles of Narnia for the first time in awhile. I never realized it, but Poor Old Lu's name is straight out of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. It's right at the beginning of chapter three. "Lu" is actually short for "Lucy". The book is dedicated to Lucy Barfield, apparently Owen Barfield's daughter. I keep finding references to Lewis in music. "Bareface" is a reference to "Till We Have Faces" by Lewis. Also, Noise Ratchet had an album titled "Till We Have Faces". There's so many I've lost count. Oh yeah, another one is "Divine Discontent" by Sixpence. I read the phrase somewhere in a Lewis essay recently. Even Stavesacre has at least one Lewis reference in "Threshold". The part in quotations is, according to Mark in some interview I read, a paraphrase of something Lewis said.

Of course Sixpence's name is a Lewis reference (from Mere Christianity). Then there's Over the Rhine's debut album "'Till We Have Faces" and a song on their second album "Patience", there is a song called "Jacksie", which is a reference to Lewis, who preferred to be called Jack. Lewis influenced a lot of people.
Interestingly, I got to visit the Kilns, Lewis' home outside Oxford, England, in May on vacation. Quite interesting. Always been a big fan of the Narnia chronicles, which I think are even better when read as an adult.

I never realized it, but Poor Old Lu's name is straight out of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I cannot imagine Poor Old Lu recording together again. It would be too complicated, and with Fair being around now, I don't think Aaron and Nick have the need to do another rock back. And Jesse is a full-time member of Dead Poetic. I framed the first page of Chapter 3 in the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe with that quote on it back in 1995 and I always had it hung in my dorm rooms in college. And a little bit of trivia: "A Picture of the 8th Wonder" was originally titled "Chapter 3" in reference to the book and also because it was Lu's 3rd LP.

Neat. I love Lewis' writings. I have a decent collection of his stuff. He has such a clarity of thought.

another reference is King's X Out of the Silent Planet, their second album, which is also the title of book one in Lewis' Space Trilogy.
As far as Aaron Sprinkle stuff, I too am a big, big fan. I saw POL's last show at Cornerstone (95 or 96). I've got Poor Old Lu, Rose Blossom Punch, his solo stuff, and now Fair. Fair's album is my all-time fav sing along mod rock album. Beautiful stuff, and it grows on you. Cut Down Sideways is my favorite track.
