it coulda been a little better. i really liked the ending, the rest was just like most other tooth and nail videos... various shots of a band playing in some random room.

I really like seeing the bands playing, I really don't care for the fillers.
Like underoath's video...it's cool and all but i really don't like it, not enough of the band.
A+ for the video.

The video is amazing. They totaly fool you into thinking it's some boring preformance vid and then they take you by surprise 2 minutes in...haha. It was interesting to see the ending, and maybe how it relates to the CD.
Has anyone read "It's all downhill from here" yet? I think I might be getting it for Christmas...I hear it explians this video a little.

I was wondering about the To Be Continued thing. Hopefully another video with another song where Schwab goes on a bloody rampage of revenge with only a knife, teeth and nails as weapons. Wonder which song it will be? Perhaps Say Goodnight to the Bad Guy?

i think that as a video it's good. i'd rather have videos of bands actually playing than some dramatic story line that i have to try and follow as well as enjoy the song. i believe it's underoath's video that throws me for a loop and i actually have to pay attention.
in this video i thought maybe i was seeing things when i noticed the disinterest in the other band members faces - then that ending brought it all together. nicely done.

You know, I really like/love DBL and whatever parts of their self-titled that I've heard, their live show is great.
One thing irritates me though, is that (in my opinion) every single thing Schwab writes is the same thing. Whether it is the book, the lyrics, the poetry, or the news update on the website. Same vibe, same dramatics, different story. It also seems like he enjoys bringing attention to himself, although it is often disguised in self-depriciation.
I only know two other people who agree with me, so I'm prepared to be reprimanded for my insolence.

I agree with you. Does that make three?
I for one think that Schwab would likely give his right arm to be half the lyricist that Mr. Salomon is.

I have a P86 question. What happened with them and the major label they were on? I never heard any specifics.

on Schwab: Yeah, he probably enjoys drawing attention to himself. Is this not what all artists essentially do? Entertainment is doing things that other people will like. That's drawing attention to oneself. I guess it's a matter of focus. Are you in this to satisfy your own feelings or are you trying to satisfy other people? My own opinion of Schwab and Co. is that they are trying to create an image that people will have fun with and hopefully see that it's all a big game and so not take it too seriously. It's a facade, but it's a purposeful facade. If they have an agenda, I would say it's to get people to see how shallow entertainment and pop culture is and stop taking it so seriously. But of course you're not going to teach anybody that by saying it, so they posture and act ridiculous until it's absolutely obvious they are goofing off. Who are they really? No one knows, but that's ok. Time and time again I've seen them recoil fiercely from people who try to judge who they are. It's similar I think to Mark's vehemently stated wish that no one he doesn't know talk to him about the stuff he wrote in his book. Mark's solution to this is to be as honest as possible about his own feelings and hope against hope that people respect that. Schwab's solution is to present as false and confusing an image of himself as possible so that people who try to "figure him out" get thoroughly confused and give up the attempt. I have to say I would take the road Mark has were I in a band like that, but I can respect Schwab's approach. It is kinda funny to think about. Kinda sly. It makes me think of a very mischievous and childish grin. Anyway, I hope this doesn't sound like a reprimand.

Anyway, I hope this doesn't sound like a reprimand. I'm not trying to judge who he is, I am just tired of his writing style. Loved the poetry book. Loved DBL. But to me, the themes and grammatical elements are repetitious. Therefore, I'm not going to swoon over his genius. I'm also not saying that you are a fanboy (or that anyone else on this thread is)... but there are definitely some Schwab swooners. ( Schwab swooner. Say it out loud. It's hard.) I'm not trying to judge him or figure him out. I've met him before, and he seemed to be ok. I realize that this fact does not make me special. Also, since I am not his close personal friend I have no way of claiming to have an authoritative opinion on his motives. He can do his own thing, and I can decide if I like it or not. I also volunteer the fact that I don't know everything and I realize that I probably couldn't do it better. You put something out for public consumption, you get praise and/or criticism. It's nothing personal. So.... that was probably way longer than necessary, but it's easy to send the wrong signals on a message board, so I wanted to be as clear as possible. You are fine.

One thing I have noticed however. And I'm not saying this applies to you, but the most common complaint about music from somebody who doesn't like it is that it all sounds the same. I've found myself saying that, and I've heard lots of people say that about music they don't like and state that as the reason for not liking it. Just feeds my theory that people really don't have reasons for why they don't like or like something. We all make up reasons for it after we've made up our minds. Choice is king!!!

I would have to agree with you. I'm dismissive of country music, even though there are a very few songs that I do like. As a whole, "it all sounds the same." So I think you're pretty well on with that point. However, in a more specific direction in regards to Project 86- I like them a lot musically. But... I just can't escape Schwab coming across as an over-emoting-but-I-have-my-walls-up-and-I-defy-convention ninny. To claim to all ends to defy convention is to be part of that same system.
But I'm an all-or-nothing, overly dismissive personality. Forgive me, please. Sincerely.
That, and Schwab would give his right arm to be half the lyricist and vocalist that Mark Salomon is.
