it may have been a "bold, new move", but that didn't make it much good. i think they went with a more radio sound and a take that most fans just didn't enjoy.
sure, they should be applauded for the shift, and only someone like them could pull it off and still sell albums, but it wasn't nearly as good musically, or lyrically as DBL.

Hmm I think personally I would place TH at the top of the lyrical pile, becuase the songs are so diverse yet there is a cohesiveness (naturally, due to story) that is incredibly hard to write. I find I have to think more about the lyrics from this CD than many of the others. And I like to think Or maybe it's just that I'm too dumb to see the deeper meanings in the other CDs? Not saying that there weren't great lyrics on those, I just love them on TH. But, TH was (ashamedly) the first P86 CD I got, so it counts for something. The first CD I buy from any band usually ends up being my favourite in the end.

Not saying that there weren't great lyrics on those, I just love them on TH. andrew's writing has always been incredibly diverse, he only had to make them follow a story line this time. i don't think that's as hard as you make it sound. for him anyway. for me, it'd be hell, but for him - because he already writes that way - it was more a matter of making each song sound a little bit along a timeline. Little Green Men is one of my all time favourite P86 songs [along with Last Meal and S.M.C] so it's not like i have anything particular against the entire album, i just don't think it's as good as say, their most recent. or DBL. though last night i was listening to the self-titled, and i'll have to say that i'll put TH above that one. that's just preference though, i like his voice better nowadays.

I feel alone here. I thought Truthless Heroes was a fantastic album...it's not often you see a decent concept LP released.
Bridges was good as well, but I loved the flow that Truthless Heroes had.

Aha, didn't read the second page before I posted.
Still, I don't understand what there is to hate. Judged on its own merits, radio-friendly or otherwise (and I hate the radio), TH is an amazing work.

I like the songs on Truthless Heroes. I didn't like all of the concept stuff.

I think all of P86's cds are great. I'm partial to the self titled one for the same reason that RogueLeader mentioned...I love every song on it. Also, it was my first P86 cd (the one that made me fall in love with them). Six Sirens is one of my most favorite songs ever. StBYBB is definitely a must. I'm with all of you TH fans. I didn't like it at first just because it threw me for a loop but once I digested it a bit, it really started to grow on me. Another Boredom Movement is such a powerful song. I love it. On that note, I will just say that Andrew is a lyrical/poetic genius.

I just got TH, and it's the Tooth and Nail version. Is there a difference between the T&N and Atlantic versions? It's pretty good. I need to listen to it a couple more times to absorb it. I of course loved "Last Meal" right away.

I didn't know there was a T&N version. Does it have the T&N logo anywhere on it? Mine doesn't. It's pretty good. I liked StByBB slightly better overall.

Mine doesn't have anything T&N anywhere on it, but it does say "BEC Recordings under exclusive license to Atlantic Recording" etc. Anyway, I went to the T&N website and compared the track listing. It's the same.

I love all of Project's albums. My favorite is DBL, most likely because it was their first album that I got, just like others have stated. I will be seeing Project this Friday. 3rd time in 6 months.

well i am huge P86 fan! i have all their records (even that self-produced online purchase recording of STBYBB when they hated T&N). the first album i bought was DBL, but then when i heard TH it blew me away. i wasn't too fond of the first release of STBYBB. then when they made up with tooth and nail, the 3 new songs they added were terrific.
but i must say that their newest record is by far, their most amazing experience. ATRWF is like the catchy melodies of TH mixed with the power and depth of DBL! seriously, it blew me away the power of this record.
funny thing is that the last p86 record i bought was their self-titled. i guess i kind of wanted it for a collection completion purpose. that record doesn't really move me like the others.
