what's everyone's favorite classic rock bands? i've been listening to alot of Boston lately. great songs, plus their tone and recording quality was far and away better than anything else out at the time. big fan of pink floyd and zepplin too.

It's cliche, but The Beatles are amazing. The Residents blow my mind. Captain Beefheart changed the world. So did Frank Zappa. I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

yeah... um....... all those you two mentioned except The Residents and Capt. Beefheart......never heard of them. I always liked The Grateful Dead, although I don't know if you can put them in the classic rock catagory. There will always be a special place in my heart for The Dead. While we were dating my wife and I folowed them up and down the east coast during the two years right before Jerry died.

in radio, classic rock is considered rock songs whose release date is 20 years old or older....usually.

I don't really like classic rock. It just might be that I am younger than all of you.

I guess I don't like classic rock either. Stavesacre was, basically, my intro to music I liked. Used to listen to oldies and pretend I liked them for my dad's sake, but I hated them. Everytime I listened I died a little inside.

I really like the 1967-71 era of rock.
The Beatles...nothing before Rubber Soul though The big names (Zeppelin, Floyd, The Who, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Kinks, The Doors)
The Pretty Things "SF Sorrow" album Cream "Disraeli Gears" The James Gang's first couple albums Jethro Tull "Benefit" and "Aqualung"
The Move, John's Children, The Creation, first couple Traffic albums
Then there are the certain amazing songs that arent really recognized anymore: Moby Grape "Omaha," Quicksilver Messenger Service "Dino's Song," Love "7 & 7 Is," Spirit "Mechanical World," Idle Race "Day's of Broken Arrows," Tomorrow "My White Bicycle."

Then there are the certain amazing songs that arent really recognized anymore: Love "7 & 7 Is," I only know of this thru Michael Roe (the 77's and Lost Dogs), who sometimes puts out projects under the moniker "7&7 is". But I grew up in the 80s, so anything before 1984 or so was pretty much before my time and I don't so much connect with it. Of the late 60s and early 70s material, I would maybe prefer stuff like Bowie and the Stooges.

You might also like The Velvet Underground and T-Rex's early stuff. I do not know of Michael Roe. Did they cover the song as well?

I don't know T Rex and the Velvet Underground very well, but yes, I agree, I'd probably like it. One of these days, I'll get around to trying them out. Michael Roe is the frontman (singer/lead guitarist) for the band "the 77's". The 77's have been around for 25 years. When the band originally fell apart in the late 90s, Michael put out what was basically a solo album under the name "7&7is", a reference to both the 77's and Love. Then he reformed the 77's a year or so later with other members and they've been a band since then. He's also one of the members of The Lost Dogs, an americana super-group of sorts made of the front men from the 77s, the Choir, Daniel Amos, and Adam Again, who are four of the leaders of the 80's modern-rock movement in christian circles. Anyway, he's my favourite guitarist and I've loved the 77's since about '86, when I got my first copy of their self-titled album (third album) on Island Records. The early material is much more New-wave tinged with 70s rock. The more recent material is much more blues based rock. I could go on and on...

I'll definitely have to check out The 77's I highly recommend Drowning with Land in Sight, Pray Naked, and Tom-Tom Blues. Pray and Drowning are good modern rock records, and on Drowning they cover LedZep's "Nobody's Fault But Mine". Tom-Tom Blues is just that - good bluesy rock.
